The Easter holidays are nearly upon us, and the team at Brass Bands England are preparing for an exciting live-streamed workshop day for brass players and percussionists on Wednesday 7th April 2021 called “Fun Foundations”.
It’s free of charge, and caters for players of all standards. The fun starts at 10am and will be going out on YouTube Live.
The morning session from 10am-12pm is for beginners in their first couple of years of playing. We’ve commissioned a new piece from Matt Kingston specially for the day, and there will be lots of playing by ear as well as reading music. Children who are learning in full class First Access / Wider Opportunities / Whole Class projects in schools will be able to join in, even if they can only play a few notes.
The afternoon session from 1-3pm will focus on the music of Alan Fernie, and Alan will be zooming in to speak about his arrangements which so many of us enjoy playing. The repertoire will be Alan’s awesome original piece "Prismatic Light”, and his skilful arrangements of Eric Whitacre's "Seal Lullaby” and Madness "Baggy Trousers”. We’re delighted that Paul Fisher the trombonist with Madness will be one of the exciting line up of tutors! There will also be short tips on technique throughout the day from some of the country’s top players, and input from some fantastic bands.
